Seasonal street sweeping underway in Grande Prairie

Apr 12, 2021 | 5:12 PM

City of Grande Prairie crews have begun seasonal street sweeping on arterial roads.

Street sweeping of arterial roads takes place 24 hours a day. The work started Sunday at 10:00 p.m. and will last until Friday at 10:00 p.m. It includes the sweeping of the roadway, medians, concrete barriers and boulevards.

The city says upon completion of arterial roads, crews will begin sweeping secondary roads, then residential. It is anticipated road sweeping will finish up at the end of May.

Drivers are asked to use caution when passing street sweepers, as they travel at a speed of about 5 to 10 km/h while in use.

“The public’s patience and understanding are appreciated as we keep our roads and community clean,” the city says in a release.

The City’s sweeping operations fleet consists of four roadway sweepers, one conveyor sweeper, two sidewalk/trail sweepers, one bobcat with a specialized attachment and two tandem trucks.
